New Look AW 2010

The other day I came across some of the photos from the New Look A/W 2010 press day on a couple of blogs (maybe one day I'll actually get to go to Press Day events myself!). Their shoes and bags for next season are actually amazing, loads of lace up boots, shearling detail everywhere and slouchy satchel bags, and best of all I know it's going to be affordable! Some of the clothing looks pretty nice too (seen a number of Burberry-esque leather and sheepskin aviator jackets that I want...A LOT!) but I was just even more impressed by the accessories.

From Clockwise: Burberry-style leather and shearling boots (how gorgeous?), crushed velvet wedges (just wow), tan backpack, floral brocade panelled lace-up wedges, khaki lace-up wedges (love these!), panelled ankle boots (very Miu Miu SS'10), shearling detail satchel and velvet backpack (!!!)

Floral and Denim

Yesterday I decided to wear my new vintage Levi's sleeveless denim jacket which I teamed with my floral skater dress. I also thought I'd show you my new ankle boots from New Look, I really like them but I think I need to wear them in a bit more before I start wearing them for long periods of time, and I also need to score the soles because they're mega slippy!

Anyway yesterday was a proper nice day, so I didn't need to layer this outfit with a cardi or jacket like I usually have to, and today also seems to be going in a similar direction which is nice. Sunshine and blue skies always seems to put me in a good mood, which is rare as I am quite a pessimistic, negative person generally haha. Maybe I should just leave England and live with my extended family in Italy and I'd be much less miserable!

Also, I thought I'd mention about what's going on in my Textiles classes at the moment. We're planning this pretty huge end of year fashion show, which all AS and A2 students will feature in and we have to raise £3000 for the marquee and the 40ft catwalk! So we're all holding bun sales (last night I was up until midnight baking buns) and car washes and fun days but I'm trying to rack my brains for where we could get sponsorship of some sort. At the moment I'm looking into local businesses, but if any of you have any ideas about what may help, even just fundraising events which may work, please let me know! :)

Yesterday's Outfit

I did some shopping in Leeds yesterday and ended up going again today as well, because while driving past the City Hall yesterday I saw the sign saying the Vintage Fashion Fair was on today, so I've ended up going into Leeds two days in a row, which meant that most of this weekend has been taken up with shopping, rather than doing coursework, but I got some nice things at least :) I mainly did Topshop sale shopping yesterday and I got my hands on a couple of things. I got one of the Alexander Wang style jersey/chino combination jackets for £20 and a pair of wet look leggings for £5 and today at the vintage fair I got a Levi's denim sleeveless jacket for £12 and a pastel checked shirt for £10.

Anyway the weather was well good yesterday, lovely and sunny and almost 20 degrees, so I wore my new River Island maxi skirt with, believe it or not, bare legs and gladiator sandals! It's been so long since I wore a skirt without tights so it felt a bit weird but as it was a maxi I wasn't particularly flashing my legs, so it wasn't too bad. I basically don't plan on wearing anything shorter than midi length with bare legs until I've either a) lost loads of weight or b) got a tan, because I'm way too self-conscious about my legs at the moment to get them out fully.

I also thought I'd show you the jacket I got yesterday from Topshop too. I think it looks quite good paired with this outfit, what do you think?

My sister was taking these pictures and she kindly caught me with my cup of tea, check out my mega cool Bratz mug. I don't even like Bratz, they creep me out, but I got this in an easter egg a year or two ago from my Grandma, she's Italian and never learnt to read so basically had no idea what she was buying, so I'll let her off haha.

Current Fine Art Project

Ok, so here is some of my work from my fourth (and final!) unit in Fine Art. The brief is about identity and how artists alter and distort appearances and surroundings in portraiture. We were given examples of artists to look at like Frida Kahlo and Francis Bacon, but if I'm honest, I'm not a huge fan fan of the more traditional side of art. As much as I appreciate the work of these sort of artists, I really prefer looking at more modern work, I think I just relate to it more.

These are some copies I've done of the work of an artist called Rachel Goodyear. I seriously love her work, it's really beautiful yet dark and twisted at the same time.

This is another copy of a piece by an artist called Rachel Cattle. She's another artist who does small-scale drawings, I love her use of line to create texture.
Another copy, this time it's in watercolour and is a copy of a piece by an artist called Amy Ross. She does these amazing watercolour paintings of human bodies with bird and wolf heads surrounded by birch trees. She also does these really cute collages of mushrooms with legs and animal heads sticking out of them.

And finally, here's a drawing and a watercolour study I did using my own photography. I've taken a load of  self-portrait shots and I'm going to combine these with drawings of animals and objects and things like that.

Sorry that the images are a bit dark, the drawings look much better in decent lighting and my work will get a lot better once I've developed it further.

New Blazer

I wanted to wear my new blazer today so I went for quite a simple look to let the blazer stand out. I paired it with my black jersey skirt and one of  my Metallica tees along with my cross necklaces and various bracelets. I love the effect of pairing the pink blazer with a grungy old band tee like this, it gives it a bit of an edge, although I can't wait to wear this in a full-on girly way as well, with a floral dress or playsuit.

I'm back at college now that our Easter holiday is over and everyone in the art department is in this constant state of stress and mild panic as there are only a few weeks left for us to finish all our work. I'm trying not to think about the looming deadlines too much, I'm just trying to get done what I can at the moment and hopefully I should get everything done in time.

And I took my Luella bag to college today, I kept a close eye on it and made sure I didn't put it down anywhere mucky though! I've got to get it out of it's dust bag every now and again!

Today I also finally got hold of the River Island tie dye maxi skirt I've been after for a while. Well, technically it was my mum who went out and found it, but I did pay for it! :)

I also just bought these brown leather lace-up boots from the New Look website as they were on sale for £20 down from £50. I've wanted a pair of lace-up brown boots for a while and at £20 it seemed like a no-brainer!
P.S.  This seems to be quite a long post, apologies for cramming it all into one! I'm thinking of doing another post later tonight though, if I get chance, with some of my drawings and sketchbook work from my current projects, or it might be tomorrow.

P.P.S. Oh and I now have 20 followers! Yay! Thank you soo much to all of you who are following and commenting, you are absolutely amazing!

New Buys

I got my lovely new dress and blazer from ASOS today. I was supposed to get it at the weekend but those mean, old HDNL delivery men didn't even bother to deliver it, then I got an email from ASOS Customer Care saying they'd tried to deliver it but no one was in, which was a complete lie as there was someone in all day! And then I come home today and they've just left the package on the porch. Couldn't they have done that when they apparently attempted delivery on Saturday?? Apparently not it seems! Grr!

Anyway very sorry for the rant haha, I shouldn't complain because I have my stuff now and it's very very nice. I got this Vero Moda pastel pink boyfriend blazer which was reduced from £50 to £20 in the sale. I always get blazers when they're on sale because they're usually way too expensive at full price.

I also got a jersey midi dress in cream for £10. It's a really nice slouchy shape and it's got a dipped hem at the back. I took this picture in my sister's bedroom as she's got a full length mirror so excuse all the fuzzy pink things although, to be fair, I have a fair share of that sort of thing in my bedroom as well. I've also got a picture of me in the blazer too to show you what it's like on. I think I'm a bit in love with it actually, the colour is just soooo pretty.

Yesterday's Outfit & Meet Pebble and Sky!

It was another nice day yesterday so I got out of the house and enjoyed the sunshine. I'm glad I did as it's back to being dull  and grey today. I went to a vintage shop called Lucy and the Caterpillar in Hebden Bridge, which I've visited a few times, and had a look around. There were a few nice fur coats but at £40-£50 were really much too expensive for what they were. And it also seemed a bit pointless to buy one now considering I wouldn't get chance to wear it for quite a few months. Other than that I didn't really see anything I liked, which was a shame as I had a bit of cash to spend and I would have liked to have picked something up.

Anyway I wore my Topshop midi dress as well as this denim shirt I got from Miss Selfridge last year. I wore this so much last year and decided I should start wearing it again, now the weather's improving. I wore it practically every day as a cover up while I was on holiday last year, which somehow made it go a bit yellow, but it's not too noticeable. My sister took these pictures for me so there are quite a few very unattractive outtakes of me laughing as well as "gesturing" at my older brother, that will hopefully never see the light of day!

Shirt - Miss Selfridge
Bag - ASOS
Belt - Urban Outfitters

I also got some photos of my gorgeous bunny rabbits yesterday as well. They were out in their run in the garden having a lovely time. So here is Pebble (on the left) and Sky (on the right)!

I am completely ridiculous about my bunnies, they are just so cute and do such funny things sometimes. I practically treat them like they are my children!

New Outfit Post!

I actually wore something other than leggings and a hoody today! I've managed to get a reasonable amount of art and textiles done this week, but I've still got plenty more to do unfortunately :( Once I've got more done I'll try to post some of it on here.

Anyway,  I decided to wear this Topshop floral dress today layered with my new Vero Moda jumper to give the floral print a bit more of an edge. I'd ordered a load of new jewellery from ASOS the other day which I got this morning so I piled all that on as well. I actually felt a bit overdressed today, as it was all nice and sunny and it seemed that most of England got out their shorts and flip-flops, while I'm still in my 120 denier tights and boots. I just can't bring myself to dress all summery for some reason. It's still only April, it just doesn't seem right!

P.S. I have just reached my 50th post! Just thought I'd say thank you again to everyone who's following and commenting on here, it's really great being a part (even though it's a very tiny and insignificant part) of the fashion blogosphere and I really love reading everyone's comments along with having a good nosey at your blogs too :)

If Only...

I am so in love with these Topshop wedges. The first pair are £90 and the second pair are £135. To be honest I could afford to get one of these, but if I do I'll end up with very little money left to go towards my holiday this summer and I also need to save for uni. So it's probably a bad idea. But still, look at how gorgeous they are!

P.S. Oh and, concerning my previous post, I decided to buy the brogues because, as Giselle at Style of a Fashionista rightly pointed out, I would just end up regretting not buying them, but as soon as I went through to checkout they sold out! Boo! That'll teach me to be so bloody indecisive!

Brogues

I'm currently considering whether or not I should buy these Urban Outfitters brogues. I've never worn brogues before, so I'm not sure if I'd suit them, but I always like how they look on other people, with a pretty floral dress or skinny jeans. They're in the sale for £15, so they're affordable, I just don't want to spend money on something I might end up not wearing! Anyway, if I buy them I'd also get this top as it's got that military vibe but is still girly because of the frill detail on the shoulders, it also makes the delivery charge seem a bit more worthwhile if I buy two things rather than just one!

Also, just thought I'd say there's probably not going to be very many outfit posts this week as I'm spending all my time at home attempting to get A LOT of work done for my A-Levels. I have two whole projects to complete and not very much time to do it in, so I'm going to need to really work my bum off, so to speak! Therefore clothing at the moment is mainly comfy leggings and oversized t-shirts so not exactly the most stylish attire. Hopefully once I'm back at college next week I'll have more to post about! :)

Florence Welch

It's safe to say that I am a very big Florence Welch fan. She reminds me so much of some of  the earlier female singer/songwriters, like Tori Amos and Kate Bush. She's got the same level of raw emotion and power, and a sort of inner strength which just pours out when she performs. I really admire that kind of person, who can completely be themselves in what they do and put their heart and soul into it, even if it's only while they're performing on stage.

On a slightly more shallow note, I also really love her style! Its that kind of goth meets vintage meets 70's disco mish-mash that I really love, and the fact that she doesn't look like she has a stylist dictating to her all the time is really refreshing. I love the way her onstage look is so ethereal yet powerful, when I saw her live last December she was in this gorgeous long white vintage dress and barefoot. She was just so understated yet glamourous at the same time.

P.S. I thought I'd start doing some of these sort of posts about things that inspire me, whether it's musicians, artists, designers, photography etc as I do get inspired by all sorts of things and, to be honest, it's helpful even just for myself to kind of record this sort of thing and have it written down somewhere. Let me know what you think though! :)

New Floral Maxi

Today I've been wearing the floral maxi dress that I posted about the other day. I really have become quite addicted to maxi dresses, there's just something about them that make me feel really comfortable and confident. I suppose it's because I've got my legs covered up, as I'm really not a big fan of my legs, especially not at the moment as I haven't had chance to do any proper exercise, which therefore equals flabbiness and general unattractiveness! Anyway I just wore this with my bleached denim jacket to keep the look simple, as I was just going to do a few bits of shopping with my parents.

We went to the exciting and wonderful Ikea to get some home related things, although I sadly didn't manage to steal any pencils, which I usually do at Ikea. I also had a clear out (well technically, my mum did) of all the piles of boxes and packaging that has accumulated in my bedroom from my online shopping habit. So, two bin bags later, and my room is nice and tidy again!
I should probably reign in the spending from now on, but I really don't want to as there are sooo many nice things that I've just got to buy!

Neutral Layers

This was yesterday's outfit, I wore my new parka as well as this Topshop slip dress I got from my parents for my birthday. My mum knew I really liked it so she'd trawled through quite a few Topshop's to find it! I layered it with a brown cardigan that's just been sitting in my wardrobe for about 2 years now that I've barely worn. I thought the different shades of cream, brown and khaki worked really well together.

I think this parka will be an ideal cover-up for when I go to Leeds Festival this summer, as it wasn't too expensive and I think it will suit a muddy, drunken festival a lot better than a £65 one from Topshop! I was a bit miffed when I found out the line-up for Leeds and Reading this year, some year's it's been really good with bands like Metallica and Rage Against The Machine or Kings Of Leon, but whenever there has been a good line-up I've never been able to go for the whole weekend. So I finally get a weekend ticket and the line-up is really pretty poor. Out of the headliners, I'd only really go see Guns N' Roses, mainly for the amusement factor though. They were an okay band once upon a time, but now it's basically just Axl Rose prancing about being a great big diva, which, although funny, doesn't exactly make great live music. I probably should be going to Download Festival this year, as they've got the likes of AC/DC and Aerosmith and it's generally a better festival but the friends aren't into that sort of music, so Leeds it is!

Parka - New Look

Oh, and I also thought I'd show you the watch I got for my birthday from my parents. It's Marc by Marc Jacobs and I love it because it's more of a cuff than a watch and it goes with all my jewellery really well.

Recent Buys

These are a few things I bought over the bank holiday weekend.
Jumper - Vero Moda; Dress - Dorothy Perkins; Parka - New Look

The jumper is Vero Moda and was on sale for £10 on the Dorothy Perkins website. I'd spotted it in one of the DP stores in London and really liked it as it was really oversized and had a really nice loose knit, but it was full price there (£42!). So when I saw it for £10 online I figured I should get it. I also bought this floral maxi dress from DP as well, as you can probably tell I'm a bit obsessed with maxi dresses at the moment. It's a lovely print and should be good layered as well as on it's own when it gets warmer (if it ever does!).
I also got this New Look parka when I went to my local shopping centre. I had thought about getting the Topshop parka but then I'd seen this New Look one for £30 less which was just as nice. I also got 10% off with my student discount so it ended up being almost £35 less than the Topshop one.

Oh, and I was very excited to see that the ASOS mid-season sale had started today! Here come more bargains! :)

London Outfits

These are the outfits I wore while I was in London, I wore plenty of layers and mainly flat boots because I did A LOT of walking. My sister is kind of scared of the tube so my mum, sister and I walked something like 2 or 3 miles from the V&A Museum to Oxford Street, while my dad and brother had bought a day pass so they had a great time jumping on and off the tube, while us girls were getting very painful feet :(

Anyway this was Wednesday's outfit, mainly comfy for the journey but needed to be stylish as I was going to Bicester Village.

Dress - ASOS
Scarf - ASOS
Shirt - Topshop
Cardi - H&M

Below is Thursday's outfit, I wore my denim shorts, ruffled pink blouse and vintage blazer, along with the Luella bag and my pink 18th birthday badge! I only had time to take pictures in the mirror at the hotel so here come those good old mirror shots!

Shorts - Miss Selfridge
Blouse - Miss Selfridge
Blazer - Vintage
Scarf - ASOS
Bag - Luella

Last of all is Friday's outfit which was another comfy, layered look as I was travelling back home. I wore this burn out midi dress I got from the Oxford Street Topshop on Thursday along with my denim shirt and leather jacket. I also got a gold bead rosary-style cross from Topshop which I wore as well. I've been looking for one of these for a couple of weeks and it felt like fate when I spotted it.

Dress - Topshop
Shirt - Topshop
Jacket - River Island
Necklace - Topshop
Bag - Luella

As you can see in these pictures this is me with my now much shorter hair. It's not too bad but I can't wait until it grows back out again.

P.S. Happy Easter! :)
