Today's Outfit

Sorry for not posting for the past few days but my grandad passed away on Thursday so I haven't been able to keep up my normal routine. Anyway I managed to get out today and just went into Leeds to do some shopping and to return the wedges I wrote about in my previous post. They were really nice but were the wrong colour, kind of blue-grey rather than black, so I took them back. So today I wore my denim shorts and layered a simple white vest with my sheer gingham blouse and vintage blazer along with my Luella bag.

While I was out I picked up some nail polishes and although I was planning on getting a couple of Barry M ones like a lot of you suggested, all the pastel colours were sold out so instead I got a few Models Own ones, more expensive but the 3 for 2 offer persuaded me.

I got them in Jade Stone, Pastel Pink and Black Magic to start me off. I think these will suit me most, I'm going to steer clear of yellow as I have a kind of yellowish skin tone and I think that would probably highlight it more. I think I'm either going to use the pink or black first.

Anyway, hope you've all had a good bank holiday weekend!

Wedges

I ordered these wedges from Urban Outfitters the other day as they had been reduced from £80 to £45. Although I really like these, they aren't entirely what I'd wanted so my perfectionism has been on overdrive these past few days abotu whether I should just go along with these ones, or try to find something else. I guess I can only be certain when they arrive and I can try them on and see if I really like them or not.
Urban Outfitters

Basically, I would have really liked the pair below from ASOS as they were pretty much exactly what I was looking for, and not particularly expensive, but then they sold out before I got the chance to buy them.
So then I looked at these similar ones in Topshop (more expensive but a lot nicer really) but they were also sold out and I haven't seen them in any of my local stores either so I had to knock that one on the head.

Asos, Topshop

So then I've trawled all of the usual sites trying to find other wedges that match my checklist (black preferably leather, high wedge heel + platform, cut outs/lace-up/buckle details, peep-toe, appropriate for summer) and found various pairs,  but all between £85 and £150, which is too expensive really.

And then today I found these Steve Madden wedges at stevemadden.com that are on pre-order, so they aren't even on sale yet until August, but I completely love them! The gold zip and buckle details are just perfect and they're a perfect height and shape, but I doubt I'll ever be able to get hold of them as the shipping is like $40 on top of the $90 or whatever it is for the actual shoes and then there's all the charges at customs to worry about too. Let's hope somewhere in the UK ends up stocking them though!

So yeah, confusion! But, to be fair, once I actually have the Urban Outfitters wedges in my posession I might find that they are completely perfect and that I don't need to keep looking at every other pair of wedges in existence to find my absoloute favourite.

Or maybe I just need to calm down a bit?

Another Maxi..

When I was in Leeds this weekend I picked up yet another maxi dress, again in black jersey but this time it was the thin strap vest-style one from Topshop. As I figure maxi's are going to be a staple for my wardrobe this summer I felt like I needed a black one without sleeves, as my ASOS one is a bit too hot when it's 20-odd degrees. Not that the weather's going to stay this way or anything though :(

But anyway the weather was still nice and warm today so I paired this with my vintage denim sleeveless jacket and added a tan belt and gladiator sandals. I've decided I need to get another pair of sandals that aren't gladiator style, or some that are at least a bit different, because I've had these for a few years and I've got kind of bored of them!

Hello Summer!

Well, these past few days have been pretty impressive heat-wise. It feels like being in Spain or Southern Italy or something, which is a bit good. This outfit was from yesterday, I didn't manage to post last night as I was tired again after a busy day sunbathing, shopping in Leeds and having a barbeque!

So, in honour of the heat, I wore my ASOS midi dress layered with my sheer gingham blouse that I knotted at the waist (again!) as well as the usual accessories and (shock, horror) no tights! I also went as far as painting my toe nails, which is something I never do mainly through laziness, but also because I never really show off my feet. The only nail varnish I had was some from my Year 11 prom (which was 2 years ago), so I had to use that. It's kind of a browny-pinkish colour and has actually lasted pretty well. Anyway I've decided that I should really invest in a few nice nail varnishes in pretty pastel colours, as it might encourage me to use them a bit more. Any suggestions of ones that are nice and easy to use but also relatively cheap please let me know!

Also while I was shopping in Leeds I popped into TK Maxx as I always like to rummage through and find the designer pieces, although I was kind of disappointed that all the main designer items were on a marked rack at the front of the shop which spoils the fun of finding them if you ask me, BUT I did come across something pretty impressive in the bag section.

It's a Luella bag! So I got all excited at the idea of a cheap Luella bag and then I looked at the tag...

So yeah, its a £6000 genuine crocodile skin bag (there were actually 2 in stock as well) in TK Maxx for £871! If anyone suddenly finds they have £871 to spare, you know where to go!

Yesterday's Outfit

This is what I wore yesterday, I didn't get round to posting it last night as I was still feeling pretty knackered and subsequently just went to bed. As you can see it is yet another variation on the knotted shirt, this time the vintage Ben Sherman check shirt I got from Leeds Vintage Fashion Fair last month. I wore it with just a jersey skirt and my denim jacket, but found that I was WAY too warm in all the layers, so when I got home I changed into a vest dress (no tights eek) and just lazed about in my garden for the rest of the day :)

P.S. I keep forgetting to mention that the other day I got an email from Northumbria Uni offering me a complimentary (i.e. free!) ticket for their final year show at Graduate Fashion Week, which I obviously said "yes please!" to. So I'm now very excited as I've always wanted to go to GFW but never got round to it, so I'm really looking forward to getting a taste for where I could be in 4 years time!

Meadham Kirchoff for Topshop

Just seen that the Meadham Kirchoff collaboration has launched today at Topshop and I'm definitely a fan. Love how the deconstructed elements of Meadham Kirchoff's design aesthetic seems to be quite an integral part of the collection and I'm also loving the layered flimsy fabrics like lace and chiffon, particularly in the nude colour. I really love the first piece, the shape is so pretty and I think it would be perfect for summer. Also love the nude skirt and the slip-style vest dress too, if only I had money!

A Bit Tired Today

I went with another simple sort of look today as I've been feeling kind of poorly today (I think it's probably due to a slight case of exhaustion haha!) so I wanted to feel comfy. I went with my trusty floral skater dress and layered it with my denim shirt. As you can probably tell I'm a big fan of knotting my tees and shirts at the moment, I think it kind of gives layering a bit more of a summery feel, because although the weather's getting a lot nicer, I'm not ready to give up layering just yet!

Back to Normal!

Hi everyone! My Art and Textiles exams are over and everything is pretty much back to normal now, so I should be posting at least every other day on here. However, although my Art and Textiles A-Levels are now officially over (!!!), I still have to revise for my Business exams so I can't avoid work altogether unfortunately!

Anyway this is what I wore today, and technically this outfit or some variation of this (maxi dress & knotted oversized tee or shirt) is what I wore all last week too for my exams because it was super comfy and easy to throw on quickly. This one, in particular, was inspired by this outfit that Charlene at Strutt was wearing. Obviously I am in no way as slim or gorgeous as she is but it was worth a try anyway!

A bee was atttacking me in the photo below, hence the dancing about :)

P.S. I am currently writing this sat in the sunshine in my garden accompanied by my lovely pet bunny rabbits. Couldn't get much better than that!

P.P.S. Although I would appreciate it if all the silly ten year olds on the park outside my house would stop trying to get into ours and the neighbour's gardens! Or at least not be so bloody obvious about it!

P.P.P.S Apologies for my ridiculously dead lawn, my dad removed all the moss from it the other day and now it's just a yucky brown colour. Oh well.

Update

Just thought I should let you all know that I won't be able to post very much over the next week as I have Art and Textiles exams for 6 hours every day next week with my final hand in date on Friday, so this week will basically make or break my chance to get into uni. It's safe to say I'm a tad stressed!

So I'm going to need to work non-stop during all my free time, so I apologise in advance for a lack of posts!

Anyway, hope you are all having a nice weekend :)

Indecision

Maxi dress again, this time my floral Dorothy Perkins one though! I put it with my sleeveless denim jacket and parka as the weather has kindly remained grey and kind of cold, so layers were needed. I had one of those mornings where I couldn't decide between what jacket to put on, it was either the parka or my leather jacket. I ended up going with the parka although I actually think the leather jacket looks better (?). I don't know, maybe it's just me being my usual indecisive self!

90's Grunge Inspired

It wasn't really my intention to today, but I ended up putting together even more of a 1990's  grunge inspired look than I usually do. I really wanted to wear one of my Metallica tees and after spending a reasonable amount of time trying things on and then discarding them, I went with my mink-coloured jersey skirt and bleached denim jacket. I left the tee untucked to sort of continue with the unkempt feel of the outfit and wore my hair in a bun again. In terms of practicality having my hair up is quite good as it means it's out the way and not irritating me while drawing/painting/sewing at college. I also sort of like how it looks.

Although you can't really see on these photos, this Metallica tee is really very distressed. It's now around 6 years old and absolutely full of holes, although these are mainly from allowing my bunny rabbits to chew at it a bit too much! When I first got it I cut out the neck, mainly so I could wear it to dance classes but also because the off-the-shoulder shape is way more flattering than that made-for-men high neck shape. I actually think it's probably the only thing in my wardrobe that I wore when I was 12 that I'm still wearing now 6 years later!

Maxi Dress (again)

This was what I wore yesterday. The weather was rubbish so I wore my maxi dress again, as it meant I could layer it up and stay cosy. I was actually kind of inspired by the feature on the ASOS website about how to style a maxi dress and I thought I'd try out the second one.

So I teamed my maxi with a knotted denim shirt along with my parka because it was much too cold and rainy to wear it with just the denim shirt. I also put my hair in a bun! I hardly ever wear my hair up, only for dance classes where a bun is necessary for double pirouettes, but considering buns are so in at the moment I thought I'd give it a go. However, as my hair is ridiculously thick and heavy I can't quite do a top-knot style bun that sits on the top of my head, so I had to just go for a lower one, maybe I can get it a bit higher with practise!
